Over 200 administrators and vendors throughout the
state attended the annual convention of the North Carolina
Association of Physical Plant Administrators (NCAPPA) hosted by
Campbell University Thursday, March 11. A total of 26 North Carolina
colleges and 32 vendors were represented at the convention.
Established as a forum for the exchange of ideas and product
information, the convention featured 12 educational sessions ranging from
improving responsiveness to emergencies on college campuses to environmental
issues with building materials. A number of local and regional vendors were
present to showcase their products, including Welsh Paper Company, Seven Oaks
Hardware, Progress Energy, Pender Nursery, Brame, H & H Furniture, Johnson
Controls, and many more.
“Hosting the convention is a great way to show off your
institution,” said Jim Roberts, director of the Campbell University Physical
Plant. “The day was wonderful, and we had a lot of great comments about the
university.”
Registration for the event began at 8 a.m. in the Lundy-Fetterman
School of Business, followed by a welcome by Campbell’s president, Dr. Jerry
Wallace. Class sessions and a vendor open house were held during the remainder
of the morning and lunch, served at 12 p.m. in Marshbanks Dining Hall,
featured Dr. James Ellerbe, vice president for Business Affairs and treasurer,
as the speaker. More class sessions and a vendor open house completed the
afternoon’s activities.
“Our administration really supported the event, which was a
real positive thing,” Roberts added. “We had several call-backs from
administrators, asking about our operations at Campbell. They were very
impressed with the way our campus looked.”
Founded in 1887, Campbell University is North Carolina’s
second largest private institution of higher education and the second largest
Baptist university in the world. Located in Buies Creek, NC, just east of the
center of the state, Campbell combines academic excellence and Christian
commitment.
