Dr. Larry Swanson, chairman of the Department of Pharmacy Practice
at Campbell University, recently announced the release of the fifth
editions of two pharmacy review books, Comprehensive Pharmacy
Review and Comprehensive Pharmacy Review Practice Exams.
Published by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, the books prepare
students for the national and state pharmacy board exams.
Swanson served as one of four editors of these books along with Dr. Leon
Shargel of Eon Laboratories, Dr. Alan Mutnick of the University of Virginia
Health System, and Paul Souney with AstraZeneca LP.
“These books have been well received by pharmacy students and viewed as quite
helpful for their final preparation for the national and state boards,”
Swanson said. “We now have a proven track record with these review books
extending back 15 years ago when the first editions of the books were
published.”
A
large percentage of pharmacy graduates throughout the nation use the books, he
noted. Swanson, who served as both author and co-author of several of the
books’ chapters, explained that the books are the only comprehensive pharmacy
review package of its type on the market.
Several members of the Campbell faculty also contributed to these new
editions, including Drs. Connie Barnes, Steven Davis, Stephen Fuller, Jay
Groce, Tina Harrison, Byron May, Penny Shelton, and Peggy Yarborough. In
addition, Dr. Chelsea Cooper and several pharmacy students provided valuable
assistance in the revision of exam questions for the practice exams.
Comprehensive Pharmacy Review contains 59 chapters and over 1,200 pages
covering the major subject areas within the pharmacy curriculum.
Comprehensive Pharmacy Review Practice Exams contains two examinations
similar in format and coverage to those in the licensing examinations required
for all pharmacists.
The
Campbell University School of Pharmacy was established in 1986 as the first
new school of pharmacy to open in the United States in 35 years. In 1990, the
charter class distinguished itself with a 100 percent passage rate on state
and national board examinations. Subsequent classes have maintained a record
of 99 percent passage rate on the national board exam and 98 percent on state
board exams. The School is a member of the American Association of Colleges of
Pharmacy.
