Commenting on the appointment, Campbell's
vice president for Academic Affairs and provost, Dr. Dwaine Greene said, “We
are extremely pleased that Dr. Hawkins will be joining the university as dean
of the Lundy-Fetterman School of Business. He brings to the position a range
of skills sharpened by years of experience. We anticipate that, working with
the talented professionals in place in the school, Dr. Hawkins will build
substantially on its already significant achievements.”
Hawkins, a native of Rock Hill, SC, also
holds the Hubert & Mandolene D. Reding Professorship in Business at Louisiana
College. In accepting his new appointment, Hawkins said,
“I am
excited about the opportunity to serve as the dean of the Lundy-Fetterman
School of Business. To become a part of Campbell University, one of the
outstanding universities in the Southeast, is an honor and a privilege. I hope
my academic and administrative experiences will be useful in the future
development of the School of Business. I believe the future of the Lundy-Fetterman
School of Business is bright given the sound foundation of the excellent
faculty, strong programs, and the outstanding facilities that are in place. My
wife and I are looking forward to becoming active members of the Campbell
community.”
Hawkins received his Bachelor of Arts in
Business & Economics at Furman University in Greenville, SC, and his Master of
Arts and doctorate from the University of Kentucky. He and his wife, Linda,
are the parents of one daughter, Ashley. Hawkins is the son of a Baptist
minister and has served as a Sunday school teacher at Calvary Baptist Church
in Alexandria, LA, where he is a member.
Prior to moving to Louisiana College in
1998, Hawkins served at Clemson University in Clemson, SC; Winthrop University
in Rock Hill, SC; Berry College in Rome, GA; and William Carey College in
Hattiesburg, MS. These positions included service as the associate dean of the
School of Business at Winthrop University, and dean of the business schools at
Berry and William Carey.
Dr. Hawkins will assume his new duties at
Campbell University in June of 2004.
