Brodin to Speak on Capitalism and the Media

Dr. Eric Brodin, former Lundy Professor of Business Philosophy at Campbell University, will be the featured speaker at the FREE Forum Lecture, Thursday, March 18, at 5 p.m. in Lynch Auditorium of the Lundy-Fetterman School of Business on the Campbell campus. Brodin will speak on the portrayal of capitalism in the mass media, discussing how the media shapes our perceptions of capitalism by possibly fostering an anti-capitalistic mentality. Admission is free and open to the public.

A native of Sweden, Brodin received a Bachelor of Arts in English language and literature from San Francisco State College and a Master of Arts in Scandinavian languages and literature from the University of California at Berkeley. He earned a doctorate in political science from the University of Geneva in Switzerland.

Brodin immigrated to the United States in 1948 and became a citizen of the U.S. in 1955. Prior to coming to Campbell, Brodin held positions as a teaching and research assistant in the Department of Dramatic Arts at the University of California at Berkeley, staff genealogist at the Genealogical Society in Salt Lake City, UT, and as assistant to the city librarian at Daly City, CA. He also served as director of the Intercollegiate Studies Institute (western states) in San Francisco, CA, and as director of the Foundation for International Studies at Malmo, Sweden.

His published works include articles in National Review, Modern Age, Catholic Digest, and Conservative Digest, among numerous others, and he is the co-author of two books, Case Studies on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms and Internationell Konservatism. Brodin’s column on international affairs and politics appears weekly in the Harnett County newspaper, the Community Leader. Brodin has also lectured at more than 50 colleges and universities in the United States and Europe and for numerous civic groups and international scholarly organizations.

The FREE Forum Lecture Series is sponsored by the Lundy Chair of Philosophy of Business and is an activity of the Adam Smith Club/SIFE (Students Involved in Free Enterprise) at Campbell University.
