Piano Duo to Perform at Campbell

Pianists Ella Ann Holding and John Adams are scheduled to perform at
Campbell University on Monday, March 15 at 8 p.m. Their concert will be
held in Scott Concert Hall of the Taylor Bott Rogers Fine Arts Center. Admission is free and open to the public. Following the concert a
reception will be held in honor of Holding and Adams. Everyone is
welcome to attend.
A native of
Smithfield, NC, Holding is the artist-in-residence at Campbell. She
earned her bachelor’s degree in music from Salem College in
Winston-Salem, NC. She received a Master of Music in piano performance
from Yale University and studied at the Julliard School of Music in New
York City. As a Fullbright Scholar, Holding continued her studies at
the Royal Academy of Music in London with renowned coaches Hilda
Dederich and Katherine Bacon. She has performed with the Yale
University Orchestra, the North Carolina Symphony, the South Carolina
Philharmonic, at the Spoleto Festival, and in the Salem College Artist
Series. Currently, she joins Adams in duo-piano concerts throughout
southeast United States and performs as a chamber music artist with the
Leros Trio, whose members also include North Carolina Symphony players
cellist Susan Gardner and violinist Paul Goldberry.
Adams is the Distinguished Professor of Piano at the University of South
Carolina. He began his studies at the Birmingham College of Music and
continued his studies at the University of Kansas City. A Victor Wilson
Scholar, he attended the Yale School of Music, where he studied with
Bruce Simonds, twice won the Concerto Competition, and was awarded the
Lockwood Prize for the best piano recital. As a Fullbright Scholar,
Adams studied with Hilda Dederich at the Royal Academy of Music in
London. He has performed throughout South America, Spain, Italy, South
Korea, Bulgaria, and Central America. He has been awarded the Alumni
Achievement Award from the University of Missouri, the Mungo Award for
distinguished teaching of undergraduates by the University of South
Carolina, Alumni Citation of Merit from Yale University, and has been
made a member of The Guardian Society by USC President John Palms.
