Clark to play key role in Campbell expansion

     Bladen County businessman and entrepreneur David Clark has been elected chairman of the Executive Committee of the Campbell University Board of Trustees. Clark, who has occupied leadership positions in a variety of business endeavors from automobile dealerships to petroleum marketing, is an excellent choice for this pivotal role in Campbell’s future, according to President Jerry Wallace.
     “Across the years, Campbell University has been blessed with the leadership of outstanding men and women elected to serve as trustees, like David Clark, who guide the university in its pursuit of excellence in Christian higher education,” said Wallace. “Not only is the university fortunate to have Mr. Clark serving on the Board, it is very fortunate to have Mr. Clark serving as chairman of the Board of Trustees Executive Committee.”
     A 1948 graduate of Elizabethtown High School, Clark received a Bachelor of Science degree in business from East Carolina College in 1953. He is a founding member of Clark Brothers, Inc., a company which owned an automobile dealership from 1951 to 1982 and is now active in investments and land development. Clark has long been associated with the Bladen Insurance and Realty Company, where he served as officer, director and company president. He has also served as secretary/treasurer of several oil companies, including Sampson-Bladen and United Energy. In addition, he is the co-owner of Camp Clearwater, one of the largest commercial campgrounds in North Carolina located at White Lake.
     Clark is the former chairman of the Bladen County Democratic Party and Precinct and served two terms on the North Carolina Criminal Justice and Training Standards Commission. Active in civic life, he has served on numerous boards and commissions, including the Bladen County Industrial Facilities and Pollution Commission, the Bladen County Hospital Board of Trustees (chairman 1991), the Elizabethtown Airport and Economic Development Commission, the North Carolina Department of Transportation Aeronautics Council and the NationsBank Sandhills Regional Board of Directors, among others.
     In 1989, Clark received the Volunteer of the Year award from the state of North Carolina and in 2002, Campbell University honored him with the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award, given to those individuals who not only excel academically and professionally, but who demonstrate character, integrity and a sense of community responsibility.
     Clark is married to the former Miriam Mitchell. They are the parents of four children. They have five grandchildren.
