University Choir to present fall concert

The Campbell University Choir journeys through time in a survey of musical history in the fall concert, Tuesday, Nov. 7, at 8 p.m. in Scott Concert Hall of the Rogers Fine Arts Center. Admission is free and open to the public.
“The program should delight the audience because we will perform pieces representing various historical periods and styles, including the 21st century,” said Choral Director Dr. Phillip Morrow. “Both sacred and secular texts, as well as a selection of sacred anthems, African folk settings and an opera chorus are represented.”
American composers Eric Whitacre and Morten Lauridsen and Italian composer G.B. Martini are featured, as well as a new piece written by Dr. Ran Whitley, chair of Campbell’s Fine Arts Division, “Now Let Our Mournful Songs.” Whitley was commissioned to write the piece by the North Carolina Music Teachers Association. Featured in the performance of the work are Campbell sophomore Shandorsay Tripp, of Fayetteville, N.C. and members of the Campbell Percussion Ensemble.
“With the Nov. 7 election going on, we hope people will be interested in artistic diversion and want to come out and celebrate the wonder and joy of life,” said Morrow. “We hope the community will join us.”
