Ciraldo performs classical guitar concert at Campbell
Praised as “an exceptionally musical and accomplished
guitarist,” Nicholas Ciraldo is a leader among his generation of American
classical guitarists. He comes to perform at Campbell University on Oct. 30, at
8 p.m. in Scott Concert Hall. The concert will feature selections from Antonio
Jose, Leo Brouwer and Heitor Villa-Lobos. It is free and open to the public.
Ciraldo, an avid chamber musician, has won several
prestigious awards for solo competitions, including the Tredres-Locquemau
International Guitar Competition in France, the MTNA Guitar Competition, the
Gaetano Zinetti International Chamber Music Competition in Italy, and the
Portland International Guitar Competition. He holds a Bachelor of Music from
Indiana University, a Master of Music from the New England Conservatory of Music
and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin,
where he received the Feeman Fellowship. Since 2005, Ciraldo has worked as
assistant professor of guitar at the University of Southern Mississippi in
Hattiesburg.
Ciraldo, an active member of the arts community, has
held positions as Artistic Director of the Boston Classical Guitar Society and
as the Vice President of the Austin Classical Guitar Society. He is the founder
of the Hammer/Nail Project, a mentoring program that links student composers
with learned guitarists. Ciraldo also exercises his talents for art and teaching
as the co-founder of the Quadrivium Guitar Quartet. The quartet recently
performed throughout rural Kentucky, teaching and playing for over two thousand
children in over forty schools.
Currently, Ciraldo enjoys a busy concert schedule with
his wife, flutist Rachel Taratoot Ciraldo.
