Campbell Homecoming 2006 is a wee bit more of Scotland
Harnett County residents can again make plans to
revisit their Scottish heritage when Campbell University celebrates Homecoming
2006 Saturday, Oct. 21, with the theme, “A Wee Bit of Scotland.” Tying into last
year’s centennial celebration of Harnett County’s Scottish heritage, the 2005
Homecoming event introduced the Scottish theme and featured Highland games,
bagpipers, singers and dancers. It was such a success, event planners decided to
reprise the concept with featured performances by WRAL’s morning anchorman Bill
Leslie and the Celtic music group Lorica; Highland game demonstrations; Celtic
singer Jennifer Licko; the Cross Creek Pipes and Drums and piper Yance
Covington. Also featured are the North Harnett Cloggers, Highland dancers and
numerous Scottish clans and vendors.
Celtic singer, songwriter, guitarist and premier Highland dancer,
Jennifer Licko has released several CDs. Some of her new mainstream singles hit
the beach music charts in the Southeast. She was also nominated for a 2004 Cammy
Beach Music “Favorite New Artist of the Year” award. Licko performs at concerts,
festivals and pubs all over Europe, Canada and the U.S.
WRAL’s Bill Leslie will take the stage with the Celtic music
group Lorica. A Celtic music enthusiast, Leslie has composed, produced arranged
and performed on five highly acclaimed Celtic fusion albums, including “Peaceful
Journey: a Celebration of North Carolina.” Licko and Leslie will perform between
10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on the Academic Circle in front of D. Rich Memorial Hall.
“We are excited about having many alumni back on campus and
sharing the day with our friends from Harnett County,” said Doug Jones,
assistant vice president for Alumni Relations, Special Events and Annual Fund.
“Homecoming provides an opportunity for everyone to come out, enjoy the
activities and have a good time.”
Scheduled events also include the presentation of
Distinguished Alumni and Sports Hall of Fame members, the Government, History
and Justice Alumni brunch, the Heroes Run, a barbecue luncheon, class reunions,
men and women’s soccer, campus tours, a student talent show and matinee and
evening performances of Campbell’s fall musical, “The Boyfriend.” The Homecoming
parade begins at 2 p.m. with lineup behind the Rogers Fine Arts Center.
