Campbell presents “Satchmo Live,” an evening with the great jazz legend
Extraordinary jazz trumpeter Ramon Kenan gives an uncanny impersonation of the
20th century’s most legendary jazz musician, Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong in
“Satchmo Live,” an evening with the great Louis Armstrong, Tuesday, October 10,
at 8 p.m. in Turner Auditorium on the Campbell University campus. Tickets are
$10 for adults and $5.00 for children and may be purchased at the door.
Known as the greatest of all jazz musicians, Louis
Armstrong had amazing technical abilities, joy and spontaneity and a quick,
inventive musical mind that still dominates jazz today. Kenan captures
Armstrong’s style in every nuance of his performance, from Armstrong’s humble
beginnings in the Storyville section of New Orleans to his triumphant world
tours. The program features Armstrong classics like “Wonderful World,” “Hello
Dolly” and many more. Jazz singer Theresa Richmond will also perform as Ella
Fitzgerald.
One of the most outstanding young trumpeters of all
time, Ramon Kenan has performed with numerous popular artists, including the
O’Jays, The Coasters, Phil Driscoll, Clark Terry, the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra and
many more. He has served as an adjunct professor at both North Carolina Central
and North Carolina State universities and has performed tribute concerts to
Miles Davis and Armstrong. In addition, Kenan has released two solo albums of
his own and toured the world with his music. He is a graduate of Oral Roberts
University.
“Satchmo Live” is a presentation of the Cape Fear
Friends of the Fine Arts.
