Senator Fred Smith elected to Campbell Board of Trustees
North Carolina Senator Fred Smith, of Clayton, N.C., has been elected to the
Campbell University Board of Trustees. Smith, a successful businessman and
entrepreneur, is president of Fred Smith Company in Raleigh, CEO of C.C. Mangum
Company and managing partner of Sunbelt Golf Group, L.L.C.
As the senator for District 12, which includes Johnston and
Wayne counties, Smith has served two terms in the North Carolina Senate. He is a
member of several key Senate committees, including
Agriculture/Environment/Natural Resources; Appropriations/Base Budget;
Education/Higher Education; Finance; and State Government/Local
Government/Veterans’ Affairs.
An active member of the local community, Smith has
served on the Johnston County Board of Commissioners, as past chairman of the
Johnston County Transportation Committee and as a member of the Johnston County
Comprehensive Planning Committee. He also holds memberships in the National Golf
Course Owners Association, Commercial Law League of America and the American,
North Carolina and Wake County Bar associations. Smith has also served on the
board of directors for the Raleigh Rescue Mission and the Triangle Apartment
Association and is chairman of the board of directors of North State Bank. He
and his wife Virginia (Ginny) are strong advocates for the
Artists-in-the-Schools program in Johnston County.
A member of First Baptist Church of Clayton, Smith is
past chairman of the board of deacons and serves as a substitute Sunday school
teacher. In addition, he has served as Sunday School Superintendent and as a
church trustee.
The Smiths are the parents of five grown children:
Heather, Jule, Duval, Amber and Reid.
