Gores to be Grand Marshalls at Campbell Homecoming celebration
Sunset Beach real estate developer, Edward Gore, Sr.
and his wife Dinah will serve as Grand Marshalls of Campbell University’s 2006
Homecoming parade. Gore, a Campbell graduate, is president and CEO of Sunset
Beach and Twin Lakes Realty.
“We are stewards of what God has blessed us with in our
lifetimes,” Gore said when a major gift toward the construction of Campbell’s
John W. Pope Jr. Convocation Center was announced earlier this year. “We think
Campbell University is a most appropriate place to give back.”
Gore said he and his wife love Campbell and what the
university is doing in the lives of young people. “Campbell focuses on Christian
values, a code of discipline and direction,” he said.
Gore graduated from Campbell College in 1952 and went
on to earn a degree in business from East Carolina University in 1955. He
enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving a four-year tour of duty, and spent
another six years as a member of the Air Force Reserve. After their marriage in
1959, the Gores joined Mr. Gore’s father Mannon C. Gore, founder of Sunset
Beach, to become second-generation developers of the beach resort. The Gores are
also among the founding families of the Sea Trail Corporation resort community
and sole founders of Ocean Ridge Plantation resort community.
Ed Gore serves on Campbell University’s Board of Trustees
and, in April 2006, the Gores received the Baptist State Convention of North
Carolina’s Baptist Heritage Award for their service to the Baptist community.
Campbell University’s Homecoming celebration is set for
Saturday, Oct. 21. The theme for this year’s festivities is “Wee Bit of
Scotland,” highlighting Campbell’s and Harnett County’s Scottish heritage and
featuring Celtic music, dancers and culture. Award-winning journalist and WRAL-TV
news anchor, Bill Leslie, will also perform. Leslie has composed, produced,
arranged and performed on five highly acclaimed Celtic fusion albums and will
take the stage with the group Lorica on Saturday, Oct. 21.
