Furman is named a Distinguished Alumnus of Campbell University
Dr. Corey D. Furman, of Valle Crucis, N.C., has been named a Distinguished
Alumnus of Campbell University. Furman received the award on Saturday, Dec. 17,
at Campbell’s winter graduation exercises where he was a keynote speaker.
A 1995 graduate of Campbell’s School of Pharmacy,
Furman is pharmacist-manager for Crossnore Drug Store, a subsidiary of Boone
Drugs Inc., an independent chain of 12 retail pharmacies in North Carolina and
Tennessee. Crossnore Drugs also provides health care services such as health and
cholesterol screening, oxygen, immunization and education for the community.
Prior to becoming a pharmacist-manager with Boone
Drugs, Furman was a pharmacist with Pitt County Memorial Hospital. As a Campbell
student, he was president of the Campbell chapter of the National Association of
Retail Druggists and was named to “Who’s Who in American Universities and
Colleges.” Furman currently serves as a member of Campbell’s Presidential Board
of Advisors and is active in the Campbell School of Pharmacy’s Mission Task
Force, an organization that seeks out opportunities for Campbell pharmacy
students and practicing pharmacists to participate in medical/pharmacy missions
work.
Furman is also active in Mount Vernon Baptist Church
and has performed extensive mission work. In 2004-2005, he assisted, while
stateside, in the implementation of the new Hope Hospital’s pharmacy department
in Uganda.
