Taylor is natural choice to lead Campbell board
Fred H. Taylor, of Troy, N.C., has been appointed chairman of the Campbell
University Board of Trustees, effective Jan. 1, 2006. The unassuming CEO and
chairman of the board of directors for Troy Lumber Company is known for his
quiet, but effective leadership style and self deprecating humor. Taylor, who
served a previous term as trustee chairman, said he is delighted to lead the
board again because he believes in the mission.
“I like what Campbell is doing and the people who serve
with me,” he said. “I like the kind of graduates Campbell produces.”
A Campbell alumnus and veteran of over 20 years of
service to the university, Taylor said one of the most pleasant experiences he’s
ever had was the time he was allowed to give out diplomas at graduation.
“It was one of the most gratifying things I have ever
done. The students looked so happy, and I knew they would be going out into the
world to make positive contributions.”
Another memorable experience was his participation in
the capital campaign for the construction of the Lundy-Fetterman School of
Business. “I was excited to be a part of that project,” Taylor said. “It
signaled the beginning of a new era of growth and expansion for Campbell.”
With several new construction projects and a new campus
beautification plan underway, Taylor is again excited to assume his role as
chairman.
“There is no doubt that Fred Taylor is qualified in
every way to lead the Board of Trustees,” said Campbell President Dr. Jerry M.
Wallace, “I am confident that there is no Campbell alumnus who can match his
love for Campbell.”
The son of long-time Campbell benefactor and trustee,
Frederick L. Taylor, Taylor graduated from Campbell in 1964 with a Bachelor of
Science degree in business administration. He has served as a director for
Montgomery Memorial Hospital and FST Bancorp and was board chairman of the
Montgomery County Board of Commissioners. Taylor is active in First Baptist
Church of Troy where he is a Sunday school teacher and member of the Long Range
Planning Committee.
