Alumni return as Campbell commencement speakers
Alumni LeAnne Davidson Kennedy and Corey D. Furman will
be the commencement speakers at Campbell University’s winter graduation
exercises, Saturday, Dec. 17, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. in Turner Auditorium.
Kennedy will speak at 10 a.m. and Furman will speak at 2 p.m. Kennedy and Furman
are both graduates of the Campbell University School of Pharmacy and successful
professionals.
The Pharmaceutical Care Coordinator for Hematology and
Oncology for in- patients at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center,
Kennedy received a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Campbell in 1993. She has
lectured and presented papers throughout the United States and was named one of
the Most Influential Pharmacists in America by the “American Druggist” in 1999.
Kennedy also received the Award of Excellence from the Hematology and Oncology
Pharmacy Association in 2005.
Corey Furman is pharmacist-manager of Boone Drugs Inc.,
an independent chain of 12 retail pharmacies in North Carolina and Tennessee
headquartered in Boone, N.C. In addition to dispensing medications, Boone Drugs
pharmacies are in the tradition of Campbell University’s community pharmacist
ethic in which the pharmacist not only fills prescriptions but monitors health
care issues. Boone Drugs provides numerous health care services including
oxygen, immunization, cholesterol and health screening. Furman received a Doctor
of Pharmacy degree from Campbell in 1995.
“The School of Pharmacy has enjoyed many successes in
the first 20 years of existence at Campbell University,” said Dr. W. Mark Moore,
assistant dean of Student Affairs and Admissions for the School of Pharmacy. “I
am honored that Dr. LeAnne Kennedy and Dr. Corey Furman have returned to ‘the
Creek’ to celebrate in these commencement exercises. They are model Campbell
pharmacists being excellent clinicians and dispensers of health care in addition
to being Christian servants.”
Approximately 500 degrees are expected to be conferred at
Campbell’s commencement exercises.
