Campbell’s Mock Trial team wins competition
Campbell University’s undergraduate Mock Trial team took first place at the
College of Charleston Mock Trial Tournament recently. Competing against Duke
University, the College of Charleston and the University of Georgia, among other
colleges, the Campbell team won each of the competition’s four rounds. The teams
argued a case in which a child is kidnapped by a friend of the family and later
returned.
“The Mock Trial team gave a fabulous performance,” said
Coach Catherine Cowling, a Criminal Justice instructor at Campbell. “They’re a
very good group of students who work together very well and are very
sportsmanlike.”
Senior Jason Murphy, of Fuquay-Varina, N.C., also won
the “Outstanding Attorney” award for achieving a perfect score. Other team
members were Kevin Sheriff, a junior from Salisbury, N.C.; Cristina Segui, a
senior from Hope Mills, N.C.; Brittany Garrison, a sophomore from Yadkinville,
N.C.; Nancy Brucia, a junior from Matthews, N.C; sophomore Elizabeth Lyerly and
Jamilah Giraud, a senior, from Charlotte, N.C.
