Christmas concert dedicated to business and civic
leaders
Approximately 400 people attended Campbell University’s annual “Christmas at
Campbell” concert on Sunday, Nov.27. The Campbell University Choral Society and
the University Choir performed Handel’s classic “Messiah.” The concert was
dedicated to Sunset Beach businessman and civic leader Ed Gore, Sr., and his
wife Dinah.
A Campbell alumnus, Gore is a real estate developer and
member of Campbell’s Presidential Board of Advisors and a newly elected member
of the Board of Trustees. He recently donated $4 million toward the construction
of the John W. Pope Convocation Center at Campbell, a $30 million sporting and
cultural events facility scheduled to be completed in the next five years. The
center’s 3,000-seat arena will be named in memory of the Gore’s son Gilbert
Craig Gore who died in childhood.
A 1952 graduate of Campbell College, Gore went on to
earn a degree in business education from East Carolina University in 1955. In
addition, he studied Russian at Syracuse University. He enlisted in the U.S. Air
Force, serving a four-year tour of duty, and spent another six years as a member
of the Air Force Reserve. Gore and his wife joined his father Mannon C. Gore,
the founder of Sunset Beach and Twin Lakes, Inc., to become second-generation
developers of the Sunset Beach area. Ed and Dinah Gore are sole founders of the
2,000-acre Ocean Ridge Plantation planned development and co-founders of the
2,000-acre Sea Trail resort community.
Gore has served on the Sunset Beach Town Council for
over 40 years and is a member of the Board of Realtors for Brunswick County. He
also holds memberships in the Kiwanis Club, the Lions Club and the South
Brunswick Rotary Club and was named Rotary Citizen of the Year in 2004.
