Mass Communication student headed to Hollywood
Filmmaker Luke Custer has been accepted to the Council for Christian Colleges &
Universities’ Los Angeles Film Studies Center for the spring 2006 semester,
joining a talented group of fellow Christian college and university students
from across North America.
A sophomore mass communication student from Campbell
University and native of Fuquay-Varina, Custer wants to pursue a career as an
actor.
Considered the major leagues by many, this Hollywood program connects its select
students to a competitive field full of some of the brightest young artistic
minds of the next century.
“Luke knows acting from the inside out and he’ll make
his mark during this semester,” said Dr. Michael Ray Smith, chair of the
Department of Mass Communication.
During his internship, Custer will read scripts and
arrange meetings for stars and work in the film business while he earns college
credit.
Among the workshops he will take is one called
“Theology in Hollywood,” which challenges students to retain their faith as they
explore the influences of the film industry on society.
The internship component will place Custer in a
development company, agency, management company or post-production facility
working 20-24 hours a week serving as support personnel for producers, writers,
directors, agents, post-production personnel and others involved in producing
and distributing a major motion picture.
