Campbell Divinity School holds world religions
dialogue
Seven representatives of
major world religions located in the Research Triangle region have been invited
to participate in a dialogue at Campbell University Divinity School on November
8, 2005. The visitors will be addressing Dr. George Braswell’s American
Sectarian Groups Class on the topic of “Challenges Which Face Our Various
Religious Communities in the Twenty-First Century.” During fall break, Dr.
Braswell, senior professor of world religions, took a class of students to visit
many of these leaders at their religious centers.
“These religious leaders have assisted generously of
their time and energy in providing their expert knowledge and experience of
their religious traditions to divinity school classes as these students have
attended seminars in their religious centers,” explains Dr. Braswell.
“The purpose of this discussion is to build
relationships with leaders of other religions and to foster understanding of the
religious and cultural makeup of our region,” adds Dr. Barry Jones, associate
dean of the Divinity School. “I also believe that our students will better
understand their own faith as they dialogue with others,” says Dr. Jones.
Invited to participate in the panel discussion are
Venerable Chueh Chuan, director of the International Buddhist Progress Society,
Cary, NC; Dr. and Mrs. Ganga Sharma, founder of the Hindu Society of North
Carolina, Raleigh; Imam Mohammed Baianonie, Imam of the Islamic Center of
Raleigh on Ligon Street; Mr. Labeed Kady, Chairman of the Outreach Committee of
the Islamic Center of Raleigh; Father Radu Bordeianu, Associate Priest at Holy
Trinity Greek-Orthodox Church, Raleigh, and Priest at Holy Cross Greek-Orthodox
Church, Greenville; and Rabbi Raachel Jurovics, Associate Rabbi of Temple Beth
Or, Raleigh.
