Annual haunted trail raises money for children
Halloween is associated
with candy, scary costumes and jack-o-lanterns. This year Campbell University’s
Circle K community service organization will provide chills and thrills while
raising money for the Zimbabwe famine and UNICEF. Their scare tactic: The
Haunted Trail.
Located behind the power plant on Campbell’s nature
trail, Circle K plans on turning these woods into a graveyard. Beginning Friday,
Oct. 28, and running through the 30, the trail will offer all sorts of scary
surprises and spine-tingling shocks as students complete the path. Groups will
be allowed to brave the trail starting at sundown and ending at midnight.
Admission is $5 and will be used for famine relief
efforts for the country of Zimbabwe. The money will also be donated to the
UNICEF organization which helps children all over the world receive vaccines,
supports orphans and prevents the transmission of AIDS to children.
Sarah Smith, public relations chair for Circle K, is
looking forward to scaring her friends and raising money and awareness for such
a great cause.
“The Haunted Trail was very popular when we did it last
year, and we’re hoping it will be more popular this year,” said Smith. “Who
would have thought that a way to get people to donate is to scare them out of
their minds?”
Smith invites the public to grab a friend and head out
to the Haunted Trail for an evening that will make your hair stand on end.
