President of Central Baptist Theological Seminary to
speak at Campbell
Dr. Molly T. Marshall, who
was recently elected president of Central Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas
City, Kan.,, will be the featured speaker at Campbell University’ annual
Prevatte Biblical Studies Lectures, sponsored by the Campbell Divinity School.
Marshall, who is the first woman who has held the
position of president at any Baptist affiliated seminary accredited by the
Association of Theological Schools, will discuss the theology of spirit. The
lectures are scheduled for Monday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m. in Room 118 of the Taylor
Hall of Religion and Tuesday, Oct. 25, at 10:40 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. in Room 118
of the Taylor Hall of Religion. The lectures are free and open to the public.
“I believe in what we do at Central as we seek God
together,” Marhsall said. “We are in the process of forming persons for
transforming ministries, which is the heart of theological education, and I’m
grateful for the trust and confidence the board has given me to lead Central as
a teaching church seminary”
A graduate of Oklahoma Baptist University, Marshall
received a Master of Divinity and Ph.D. from The Southern Baptist Theological
Seminary. She completed additional graduate work at Tantur Ecumenical Institute
in Israel, Cambridge University in England and Princeton Theological Seminary in
New Jersey, where she served as a visiting scholar. Marshall has also served as
a resident scholar at the Institute for Ecumenical and Cultural Research. She
was professor of theology and spiritual formation and worship at Central Baptist
Theological Seminary and interim academic dean before becoming president in
2005. Her published works include articles on salvation, human behavior and
spiritual formation.
The Prevatte Biblical Studies Lecture series was
established to further the mission of the Campbell Divinity School to provide a
Christ-centered, Bible-based and ministry-focused theological education by
bringing outstanding scholars who are widely recognized for their excellence in
relating the message of the Bible to the ministry of the church. The lecture
series was endowed by Mr. and Mrs. E.J. “Jimmy” Prevatte.
