Lecture focuses on growth of criminal behavior and
its solutions
Dr. Rhonda Zingraff,
director of Sociology and Social Work at Meredith College, will examine the
contemporary foundations of moral order and the reason for the alarming
expansion of the Criminal Justice system in her lecture, “Civility and
Criminality.” Sponsored by the Campbell University chapters of Phi Kappa Phi and
Pi Gamma Mu, the lecture is scheduled for Tuesday, October 4, at 7:30 p.m. in
Hartness Lecture Hall of the L. H. Campbell Hall of Science on the Campbell
campus.
Zingraff has spent over 20 years on the board of
directors of ReEntry, Inc., a non-profit community agency with programs that
help criminal offenders make responsible life choices. Her lecture will focus
special attention on the events in our culture that have created widespread
concern with incivility and strategies to control crime. She will also discuss
the role of responsive and responsible communities in helping to provide a
safer, more civil world.
Zingraff received a Ph.D. in Sociology from Bowling
Green State University in Ohio and teaches social theory, criminology and
corrections at Meredith.
The annual Fall Lecture is associated with the North
Carolina Humanities Forum, a speakers’ bureau of the North Carolina Humanities
Council which provides free public speakers on humanities topics. All
presentations explore a variety of subjects dealing with the nuances of identity
and community.
Admission is free and open to the public.
