Mass Communication senior completes internship with
ABC News

Gretchen Ross, a senior
mass communication major at Campbell University, spent the summer in New York
City as an intern with ABC News.
“I have always wanted an internship with a national
network,” said Ross. “I never thought I would actually be spending my summer in
New York with ABC.”
Ross, who is from Greenville, N.C., was one of three
news interns with ABC NewsOne. NewsOne is the affiliate 24-hour newsroom for ABC
News. It is a newsgathering service that provides complete coverage of news,
features and sports to affiliated stations across the country, foreign news
agencies and other domestic programs.
During her time at NewsOne Ross became proficient in
using digital editing systems, acted as associate producer for correspondents on
several stories and produced the daily “Medical” and “Money” minute segments and
the weekly “New Music Tuesday” project. She also attended several intern
seminars where she was encouraged to pitch story ideas. Ross researched and
pitched a story regarding the acne medicine Accutane that received positive
responses from Barbara Walters, Ted Koppel, Diane Sawyer and other
correspondents within ABC News.
“I thoroughly enjoyed my internship with NewsOne,” said
Ross. “I gained skills that will be helpful for my career in the mass media.”
Ross is an entertainment writer with the Campbell
Times, announces for the baseball and softball teams and at 90.1 FM WCCE radio
station and works for the Public Information Office at Campbell University.
