Campbell graduate makes “Wall Street Journal”
superlative list
Mention Brad Mckeiver’s name in Campbell’s Lundy-Fetterman School of Business,
and words like, “exceptional” and “outstanding,” usually follow. The trust
management and investment graduate received a Bachelor of Business
Administration and a Master of Trust Management and Investment in 2005, while
maintaining a 4.0 post graduate average and playing on the men’s basketball
team.
“He is one of the most outstanding students I have ever
seen,” said Peggy Lawrence, director of Career Development and Placement for the
School of Business. “He is truly a remarkable young man,” said Dr. Ben Hawkins,
dean of the school.
On Wednesday, Sept. 21, the nation’s number one
financial newspaper concurred, “The Wall Street Journal” named Brad McKeiver to
its 2005 “Best in Class” list for student achievement, a 60-year tradition
honoring exceptional students across the nation. Naturally soft-spoken and
low-key, McKeiver said it is a nice honor.
“It kind of brings my academic career to a pleasant
closing,” he said. “It lets me know that all of those years of hard work in
college were worthwhile.”
McKeiver, who is now a wealth manager with the Mellon
Financial Corporation in Pittsburgh, Pa., said one of the most important lessons
he learned from Campbell’s Trust Management curriculum was customer service.
“You should always value your clients and make them your top priority,” he said.
Lawrence, who helped McKeiver find the internship that
led to his first job, said McKeiver was the kind of student who was always
thinking. “Brad always had a plan and thought things through thoroughly,” she
said. “He was very quiet about it, but very determined.”
While at Campbell, McKeiver served as director of
basketball operations, which included managing the Film Exchange program for
over one hundred basketball games and coordinating travel plans. He also served
as assistant to the director of the Trust program, providing assistance in the
creation and maintenance of the placement and continuing education programs. For
outstanding academic and athletic achievement, McKeiver received a full,
four-year scholarship to Campbell. He was a member of several honor societies
and received the All-American Scholar Collegiate Award and the All-Academic
Atlantic Sun Member Award.
A native of Chester, Va., Brad is the son of Mike and
Linda McKeiver. He also has a sister, Sandy Siegel.
