'61 Charles W. Wilkinson (A.A.) has filed for re-election for district court judge of the Ninth District. He has been a district court judge since 1976, and has been chief district court judge since 1994. He and his wife, Dolores, live in Oxford, NC.
'67 Blenda Autry (B.S.) was honored for 25 years of membership and service by the Alpha Delta Kappa Beta Kappa and Fidelis Pi Chapter.
'68 Charles E. Grady, Jr. (B.B.A.) was named Top Producing Affiliate in North Carolina for 2003 at the Coldwell Banker Commercial Global Commercial Conference in Last Vegas, NV.
'69 Douglas Trent Carter (B.S.) has received a $4,000 Treadwell Memorial Scholarship from the Sandhills Branch of the English Speaking Union. This provides him the opportunity to study at Exeter College of Oxford University this summer. He is a history teacher at Pinecrest High School.
'70 Neil C. Collins (B.S.) married Anna B.
Holladay
February 15, 2004. He is a seventh-grade geography teacher at Gold
Hill Middle School in Fort Mill, SC. She is a graduate of Columbia
College, Winthrop University, and the University of SC and is a professor
at Winthrop University. The couple is living in Chester, SC.
'71 Bruce Worley (B.S.) has been called by Kernan Blvd. Baptist Church in Jacksonville, FL, to serve as minister of education. He and his wife, Ann, moved to Jacksonville from Apex, NC, where he served as minister of family life/adult education of First Baptist Church, Cary. The Worleys have two adult children and two grandchildren.
'72 Carolyn Crossland (B.A.) has received the Continued Excellence Award for Advisors at the 2004 Phi Theta Kappa International Convention in Minneapolis, MN. She is a music faculty member at Lenoir Community College and serves as advisor to the Omicron Rho chapter of Phi Theta Kappa.
'74 Lt. Col. Earl Adams, Jr. (B.B.A.) has retired from the U.S. Army Reserves after 28 years.He is currently employed by NCR Corporation in Dayton, Ohio as the director of NCR's Corporate Export Compliance department
'76 Ray Blackmon (B.A.) has been hired as manager of the Johnston County Airport.
Estelle W. Burnette (B.S.) has been appointed by the Board of Directors to serve on the State Credit Union/Louisburg Road Advisory Board. Burnette is also a substitute teacher for the Wake County Public School System.
'79 North Carolina Court of Appeals Judge John M. Tyson (J.D. '79) was awarded a Master of Law in the Judicial Process (LL.M.) during graduation ceremonies at the University of Virginia School of Law on May 16, 2004. He earned his degree over a two-year period, including residence for class during the past two summers while court was in recess, and completing an extensive thesis. The thesis reviewed North Carolina native and President James K. Polk's nominations to the United States Supreme Court. Tyson becomes one of the four current judges in North Carolina to earn the Master of Laws degree from the University of Virginia.
Tyson graduated from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in 1974 and then attended the Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law at Campbell. He also holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Duke University. He is currently on the adjunct faculty of the Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law.
Tyson filed as a candidate for the North Carolina Supreme Court in the State's first non-partisan appellate election to be held this November.
'82 Joe I. "Jim" Marshall has been appointed chief operating officer by Integrity Financial Corporation for Catawba Valley Bank.
Nancy Suggs (B.S.) has been selected as Cumberland County Schools' Assistant Principal of the Year.
'85 Kathryn Holloway Geisen (M.Ed.) has completed her doctoral degree in higher education leadership at Nova Southeastern University in Miami, FL. She is currently director of planning and research at Bladen Community College in Dublin, NC.
'86 Shep Guyton (B.B.A.) leads the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, one of the most active Chamber organizations in the Carolinas, perhaps in the nation. He has been at the post since July 2003.
'88 Kevin Whiteheart (J.D.) is taking over as city attorney in Lumberton, NC.
Mary Jo Howard Wells (B.B.A.) has joined the law firm of Tanner & Romary, PA.
'90 Dr. John Hayes (Pharm.D.) has joined Haywood Regional Medical Center as the pharmacy director.
Donald "Ben" Strickland (M.B.A.) has been promoted to senior vice president at First South Bank. His primary responsibilities include commercial lending, business development, and overall management of branch banking activities in the Greenville area. He has more than 20 years experience in financial services.
'92 Paul Banta (B.B.A.) was named GM of the Year by Sree Hotels, which was originally formed in 1980. Sree currently owns and operates 29 hotels in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, DC. Paul and his wife, Monica, are celebrating their 10th anniversary. They have two daughters: Rebecca Lynn, 4, and Sarah Grace, 1. The family lives in Monroe, NC.
Greta Walker (B.B.A.) is the new Whiteville Senior Center Coordinator.
'93 Yvette Smith (B.S., '03 MSA) is taking over as principal at Oak Grove Elementary School in Durham, NC.Smith has been an assistant principal at Northeast Elementary School in Wayne County since 2002. She also taught at the school for nine years, and in 1997 was named the school's teacher of the year and the school system's math teacher of the year.
'94 Julia Riggsbee Byers (B.S.) and husband, Reid, announce the birth of a baby daughter, Julia Meredith Byers, born May 17, 2004. She weighed 8 pounds, 14 ounces, and was 22 inches long.
Andrea Catherine Campbell (Pharm.D.) married George Patrick Markham June 21, 2003. She is employed at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Fayetteville as a staff pharmacist. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina School of Pharmacy. The couple is living in Fayetteville, NC.
Larry Jacobs (M.B.A.) recently passed the Uniform CPA Exam. He
is the vice president of Finance and
Administration at Lumber River EMC.
John Spencer Luther (B.A.) and wife, Courtney, announce the birth of a son, Benjamin Durham, born February 11, 2004. He weighed 9 pounds, 8 ounces, and was 21 inches long. He joins siblings Hannah, 9, and John `Gabriel,' 3.
'95 Cheryl Lemonds (Pharm.D.) has been named pharmacist at a new retail pharmacy being opened by Stanly Memorial Hospital. She previously worked in K-Mart and CVS pharmacies.

a daughter, Rachel Anne, born February
5, 2004. Rachel joins big brothers Adam, 3 1/2, and Joshua, 12
½ months.
'96 Cathy Cowling (B.S., '96 M.Ed, '00 J.D.) adopted a baby girl, Elizabeth Laura, born April 10, 2004. She weighed 6 pounds, 12 ounces, and was 19 inches long. Cathy is currently teaching at Campbell.
Mose Highsmith (J.D.) has filed to run for District Court Judge in the 29th Judicial District, which includes Henderson, Polk, Transylvania, Rutherford, and McDowell counties. He currently serves as the staff attorney for the Henderson County Sheriff's Office.
'97 Mary Stephenie Anthony (Pharm.D.) married David M. Konkler, Jr. April 24, 2004. She is a pharmacist for Target. He graduated from Forsyth Technical Community College and is an AutoCAD Technician for Lambert Architecture.
Kelley Anne Childress (Pharm.D.) married Michael N. Wagoner, Jr., April 3, 2004. She is a pharmacist at Sam's Club in Winston-Salem. He is a graduate of East Carolina University and is employed by Virtual Office Ware. The couple is living in Winston-Salem, NC.
Jon Hugh Dawson (B.S.) married Jane Dodd Rucker on April 3, 2004. She is a graduate of Elon University and received a master's degree from the Citadel. She is a middle school counselor in the Charleston (SC) County School System. He is owner of True Colors Painting Company in Mt. Pleasant, SC.
Christopher Hinnant (J.D.) married Anna Marie Gissendanner March 27, 2004. He is an attorney with Patterson, Dilthey, Clay, Bryson and Anderson. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and is employed by Misys Healthcare Systems in Raleigh. The couple is living in Cary, NC.
'98 Jonathan G. Bart (B.S.) married Jennifer L. Penny April 17, 2004. She graduated from Meredith College and is employed by the Methodist Home for Children. He is employed at South Harnett Elementary School. The couple is living in Coats, NC.

Beth Anne Rhoden (B.S.) married Timothy J. Sikora, March 13, 2004. She is employed with Chauvet Lighting in Miami. He is a graduate of the Milwaukee School of Engineering and is employed by ASTAR Air Cargo as manager of Information Technology. The couple is living in Miami, FL.
'99 Susan Ashley Carter (Pharm.D.) and Michael Dwayne Canady were married April 24, 2004. She is a pharmacist with Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton. He received his bachelor's degree in management from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is a loan officer with State Employees Credit Union in Fayetteville. The couple lives in Eastover, NC.
Norma Carol Hudson (B.S.) married Brian Matthew Spittle February 14, 2004. She is a recent graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry. He attended James Madison University and graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and is also a recent graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry.
Megan Johnson (B.S.) graduated from East Carolina University on May 8, 2004, with a Master of Arts/Certificate of Advanced Study in school psychology. She will be employed with Hanover County Schools in Virginia.
Kristy Adams Miller (B.S.) and husband Chris announce the birth of their son, Adam Drake, born April 8, 2004. He weighed 7 pounds, 10 ounces. She is a first-grade teacher at Meadow Elementary. The family is living in Benson, NC.
Matthew G. Nestor (B.A., '02 M.B.A. & J.D.) married Bryna Tobi Kidd ('03 J.D.), February 28, 2004. He is a founding partner of the law firm of Geddings, Nestor & Altman, PLLC, in Oak Island. She is an assistant district attorney in New Hanover County. The couple is living in Oak Island, NC.

Adam V. Relan (B.B.A.) married Abbey E. Shenk ('02 B.S.) December 20, 2003. He is employed by Smithfield Country Club in Easley, SC, as a golf professional. She is a kindergarten teacher with Greenville South Carolina County Public Schools.

Janine M. Kushner (Pharm.D.) is working as a consultant pharmacist at PPD Medical Communications in Durham, NC.
'01 Rebekah Thayer Doffermyre (B.A.) and Carl King Rust III were married May 1, 2004. She is employed by John Motley Associates in Laurel, MD. He is a graduate of Davidson College and works as client services manager for Capitol Advantage in Fairfax, VA. The couple resides in Springfield, VA.
Rhiannon Nicole Rains (B.S.) married Paul Holloman on August 23, 2003. She teaches middle school math and he teaches science in the Nash-Rocky Mount School System. He is a graduate of UNC Chapel Hill.
Kelly M. Weeks (B.S.) has joined the medical practice of Coastal Albemarle Orthopedics, PA, as a physician assistant.

He is a graduate of Pembroke State University and the 170th Federal Bureau of Investigations NA in Quantico, VA. He is a field investigator with USIS. The couple is living in Fayetteville, NC.
Amanda Mercer (B.A.) married Zachary P. Dotsey May 1, 2004. She is the assistant manager at American Eagle. He is a graduate of UNC Greensboro and is the assistant manager at Best Buy. The couple is living in Raleigh, NC.
Amie Moore has been named circulation manager at the Biblical Recorder in Raleigh, NC. She lives in Coats with her husband, Chris, who is a student at Campbell University Divinity School.
Linda Oldham (J.D.) was the spring graduation speaker at Sandhills Community College in Pinehurst, NC. She is pursuing a master's degree in English education at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.
Amy Lee Pierce (B.S.) married Thomas Bradford Ketner on March 23, 2004. She is employed by Virginia State Parks in Marion VA. He is employed by Musser Lumber Sales in Rural Retreat. The couple is living in Rural Retreat, VA, with Brad's son, Lane.

'03 Virginia Ann Johnson (M.Ed.) married Jason G. Taylor, April 10, 2004. She is currently employed by Harnett County Schools at the Lillington-Shawtown Elementary School. He is employed with the North Carolina Department of Transportation and is a volunteer fireman with Boone Trail Emergency Services.
Julia Myrick (B.S.) was recently crowned Miss Virginia Beach for the second time. She will participate in the Miss Virginia competition in Richmond on June 26.
Melanie P. Rodgers (B.B.A.) has been selected as the North Carolina Association on Aging Employee of the Year for Service Excellence. She has been employed at Lee County Senior Services since July 1993, and was promoted to her current position of administration technician II in 1997. She is married to Detective Billy Rodgers of the Sanford Police Department, and they have two daughters: Jessica, 15, and Amanda, 9.
