Buies Creek, N.C. - Graduate Lydia A. Butler received one of Campbell University’s highest honors during commencement exercises on Saturday, May 15. Butler, who maintained a perfect 4.0 average, received the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award given to those students who not only demonstrate outstanding academic performance but moral and civic responsibility as well.

A business major and Spanish minor, Butler was a member of the honor societies Phi Eta Sigma, Epsilon Pi Eta, Omicron Delta Epsilon, Omicron Delta Kappa and Sigma Beta Delta. She also distinguished herself in numerous campus activities and leadership roles, serving as a Resident Assistant at Burkot Hall, a cheerleader on the Varsity Squad and captain and coordinator of volunteer activities for the squad. She was a member and vice president of the Student Athletes Advisory Committee and served as a student assistant to the Campbell University Theatre Arts Department. Butler was also active in the Lundy-Fetterman School Business at Campbell where she served as a student mentor, member of the Dean’s Undergraduate Student Advisory Council and worked on special projects like the development of a promotional DVD for the school.
