Keith Hills Golf Club becomes 1st to introduce FootGolf in Raleigh area

Learn about FootGolf

Keith Hills Golf Club will host a free public event on Sunday, March, 9, at noon that introduces people to FootGolf and goes over the sport’s basic rules, scoring and course layout. Tee times will be available after noon. Call 910-893-1371 for more information or to schedule a tee time. Because soccer balls will be limited, Keith Hills encourages people to bring soccer balls with them if they have one.

BUIES CREEK -- Keith Hills Golf Club, which is owned by Campbell University and managed by the university’s PGA Golf Management Program, has become the first golf club in the Raleigh, N.C., area to add a FootGolf layout to a course.

FootGolf is a hybrid of the popular sports golf and soccer. To play, participants use soccer balls on a traditional golf course with 21-inch diameter holes. The goal is to get a soccer ball into the cup using the fewest kicks possible. The rules largely correspond to the rules of golf, and FootGolf uses golf’s basic model including tee boxes, greens, bunkers, hazards, and 18 holes of play.

The first FootGolf layout in the Raleigh area is located on the White Course at Keith Hills and measures 2,610 yards for the 18-hole, par 71 course. It opened for play on Feb. 4. Players tee off using a soccer ball, strategically kicking it until they get it to drop into the hole that is cut into the edge of the fairway or rough. While the soccer ball doesn't travel as far in the air as a golf ball, it will roll much farther on the fairways.

FootGolf at Keith Hills was created in conjunction with the rules of the American FootGolf League (AFGL). The sport is played in the traditional format of up to four players per group. Participants can either walk the course for $10 per player or use golf carts for $18 per player. Rental balls are available for $3 per round.

FootGolf groups can play 18 holes in about 2 hours, allowing them to be on course with regular golf groups on the White Course. To reserve tee times, call the golf shop at 910-893-1371.

On Sunday, March 9, Keith Hills will host a free event for the public at noon that introduces them to FootGolf and goes over the basic rules, scoring and course layout. Tee times will be available after 12 p.m. that day, too. Call to schedule a tee time for the event. Because soccer balls will be limited, Keith Hills encourages people to bring soccer balls with them if they have one.

Is the soccer golf course still available?  If so how much does it cost to play?
