NASHVILLE--The Campbell Times won five awards in a national competition.
Editor Trevor Normile of the student newspaper collected the awards during a recent Baptist Press Journalism Conference in Nashville.
Normile, a senior, won an award for cartooning and one for newswriting; Andy Specht, an 2010 alumnus, won for opinion writing; senior Elizabeth White won an award for a news feature and senior Christopher Tolley received an award for a cartoon.
The awards recognized the staff from 2009-2010 under the leadership of Specht, now a writer with one of the publications associated with the News & Observer, Raleigh. His front-page bylines can be seen in the N&O along with its suburban periodicals.
Normile is leading the newspaper this year and recently he added a web page at: http://www.thecampbelltimes.com.
