Buies Creek, N.C.-Campbell University will serve up a delicious dinner and the classic comedy of playwright A.R. Gurney at its first ever dinner theatre event, "The Love Course," Sept. 19 and 20 and 25, 26 and 27. The evening begins at 6:30 p.m. in Ellis Theatre of the Rogers Fine Arts Center where theatre goers will be seated on stage for dinner and remain there throughout the play in their role as an interactive audience. Tickets are $15 general admission and $12 for Campbell students, faculty, staff and senior citizens. Dinner is included in the admission price.
"We're really looking forward to doing this for the entire Campbell community," said Bert Wallace, director and professor of Theatre Arts. "It should really be a lot of fun."
The Fine Arts faculty and staff will serve as the wait staff for the dinner and guests will have a choice of at least two entrees. Wallace said there is a seating capacity of approximately 100 people.
"I don't know exactly what to expect because it will be our first event of this kind," Wallace said. "But I know it will be exciting for everyone."
"The Love Course," is a clever and entertaining investigation of love through the lens of a college class about the literature of love. The male and female professors team-teaching the course move from theory to practice as the truth comes out about who loves who.Â
Known as the dramatist of the WASP (white Anglo-Saxon Protestant) culture, Gurney satirizes and pokes fun at the group, but his work also understands and empathizes with them.
"The Love Course is very appropriate for all audiences," said Wallace. "It is definitely a comedy about the different and funny approaches people take to the art of falling in love."
