Buies Creek, N.C.-Dr. Terry Hamrick, coordinator of Missional Leadership for the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship (CBF) of Atlanta, Ga., delivered the commencement address at the Campbell Divinity School hooding ceremony on Friday, May 8, in Turner Auditorium of the D. Rich Building. The ceremony was part of Campbell's 123rd graduation exercises held May 8-9.
In his commencement message, Hamrick urged the graduates to discover who God created them to be.
"My faith is based on the fact that God has a purpose for us. You must, in sum, become the person that you ought to be. We're a testimony to the glorious power of God," Hamrick said. "When you're away from Campbell University and your exams are written in human lives, not exam books, remember to be yourself."
A graduate of Mars Hill College, Hamrick earned degrees from Southern Seminary and the University of Georgia, where he completed a Doctor of Education degree in 1988.
Following a 22-year career as Minister of Education in local churches in Kentucky, Georgia and Texas, Hamrick moved to the recently founded Cooperative Baptist Fellowship in 1996. In his role in missional leadership development, Hamrick has helped churches associated with CBF develop young leaders, support theological education and cultivate a spirit of outreach.
He is married to the former Judith S. Orr. They have two sons and two granddaughters.
A total of 37 graduate degrees were conferred at the hooding service. They included 27 Master of Divinity, 5 Doctor of Ministry and 5 Master of Arts in Christian Education.
