Buies Creek, N.C.—Acclaimed piano duo Amy and Sara Hamann will perform in concert Thursday, Nov. 13, at 8 p.m. in Scott Concert Hall of Campbell University’s Taylor Bott Rogers Fine Arts Center. The concert is part of Campbell’s Artist Performance Series, sponsored by the department of Music. Admission is free and open to the public.
Heralded as “eloquent” by the Swedish newspaper “La Chaux-de-Fonds,” the sisters have won international recognition in only a few years of performing. Most recently they were named “Yamaha Artists” by the Yamaha Corporation of America.
Amy and Sara made their way onto the professional stage at the Fitzgerald Theater in Saint Paul, Minn. Their broad range and versatility in playing period and modern instruments has led them to become featured artists with the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra at the Chautauqua Institution, the Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series, the Oslo International Music Festival, the Quebec International Duo-Piano Festival and many others. Recently, the Hamanns joined the Minnesota Orchestra for the American premier of Haydn’s “Concerto for Two Pianos,” and they have appeared as guest artists for the season opening concerts of the Cedar Rapids Symphony Orchestra, The Rochester Symphony Orchestra and the Colonial Chamber Series in Minneapolis, Minn. Frequently, the Hamanns’ performances have been broadcast on national and international television and radio, including NPR’s “Performance Today” and “Studio 360.”
They are the first American Piano Duo to win the Absolute First Prize in the Fryderyk Chopin Concorso Pianistico Internazionale, held in Rome, Italy, and were first prize winners of the International Grieg Competition held in Oslo, Norway. In addition, the sisters are winners of the prestigious McKnight Artist Fellowship for Performing Musicians administered by the MacPhail Center for Music.
