FAQs

1.      What is a Club Sport?

A club sport is a student-run organization, whose sole purpose is to serve as an alternative to Varsity Sports, and Intramural Sports. Basically, you are a group of students who share a love for a particular sport, but want to be more competitive than Intramurals. As a participant, you can choose how much you want to be involved with the team within reason of the Club’s guidelines.

2.      How do I start a New Club?

Come to Carter Gym and ask for Andy Shell or the Graduate Assistant of Club Sports. Further details will then be given to you about how to get the club sport you would like here on campus.

3.      Who can participate in a Club Sport?

Any current graduate or under-graduate student may be a part of a club, who is not on a Varsity roster.

4.      How is Club Sports governed?

Club Sports is governed by the Club Sports Council, which is comprised of all presidents of all clubs and an executive council. They make the decisions for Club Sports that are enforced by the Club Sports Graduate Assistant.

5.      Where do clubs usually practice?

Every club practice varies. Campus Recreation attempts to be as fair as possible when scheduling facilities to be used.

Fields and space is limited, so it is imperative that we coordinate with Intramurals, as well as other clubs.

6.      What tournaments do clubs participate in?

Each club’s activity level is different. Some of our clubs participate in tournaments at regional or national levels, while others only hold recreational games against surrounding schools.

7.      How do I schedule a facility for practice?

Email the Club Sports Graduate Assistant or the President of Club Sports with the request. The request should be made at least two days in advance.

8.      Who do I ask about scheduling tournament or games?

The Club Sports Graduate Assistant will handle requests for tournaments. Individual games should be scheduled by the club president.

9.      How early can I schedule a practice?

A practice can be scheduled as soon as the Club Sports Interest Meeting takes place (usually within the first week of the fall semester).
