Message from the Dean

Dean WakefieldDear Friends,

It is my privilege to introduce you to our new Associate Professor of Church Music and Worship, Dr. Larry G. Dickens, who has been Minister of Music at Snyder Memorial Baptist Church in Fayetteville, NC, since 1999, and is a 1975 Campbell University graduate. He is the first person selected to fill the Gay T. and Haskell A. Duncan Chair of Church Music at Campbell University Divinity School.

While at Snyder, Dickens served as an adjunct professor at the Divinity School from 2006 until the present and served as a Church Music Intern Supervisor for the University Music Department from 2003-2006 prior to that. He will begin his full-time duties on July 1, while assisting Snyder for a few months during the transition. As Associate Professor of Church Music and Worship, Dickens will give leadership to the M.Div. Church Music concentration and teach courses in that concentration as well as guide the planning of weekly chapel services. Read more...

Ready for renewal, deeper studies?

Campbell University Divinity School has several options for you.

NEW TESTAMENT CLASS ON SATURDAYS THIS FALL

This fall, I will have the opportunity to teach a New Testament survey class that covers the life of Christ. It will be taught at the Norman A. Wiggins Law School of Campbell University in downtown Raleigh. It will be offered from 9 to 3 on the following Saturdays: Sept. 14 and 28; Oct. 29; and Nov. 9. This class is open to degree-seeking-students and to non-degree-seeking students. Non-degree-seeking students who want to enroll must apply for special student status by July 1.

NEW CERTIFICATES IN BIBLICAL STUDIES AND YOUTH MINISTRY

If you are not able to pursue a graduate degree but would like to dig deeper into the Bible, a new certificate in Biblical Studies might fulfill your desire. It requires 17-18 credit hours, a total of six Biblical courses that will be offered at varying times and in different locations and offered in a blended way to encourage community but with added convenience. The same is true for the new Certificate in Youth Ministry, designed particularly to help the person who is already serving in this capacity without a theological degree. It requires six courses, with foundational Biblical courses, and then Christian Education courses and courses designed specifically for youth ministers. These certificates are open to both degree-seeking and non-degree-seeking students. Non-degree-seeking students who want to enroll must apply for special student status by July 1.

D.MIN DEGREE

For those who have earned the Master of Divinity degree, the Doctor of Ministry Degree might be a great way for you to study in an area where you have always had a passion, doing it in a context of invaluable resources, encouragement, and accountability. It is a great context for spiritual renewal and mutual support as you gather with others in similar situations on the ministry journey.

The application deadline for the study opportunities listed above at Campbell University Divinity School is July 1. Contact Kelly Jorgenson at jorgensonk@campbell.edu or 800-760-9827, ext. 1865 for more information or go online at http://divinity.campbell.eduunder Admissions.

OASIS Renew for the Journey

Oasis

Come to the Creek for a time of enrichment, renewal and recreation at the OASIS renew for the journey Church Music Conference July 15-17. You can enjoy worship and worship-related seminars without having to plan them! Learn with nationally known church music talent and dedicated Christians—Randy Edwards, Joseph Martin and Pepper Choplin. A special bonus includes Writer and Church Leader Mark Wingfield and nightly worship with the North Carolina Baptist All-State Youth Choir, Joseph Martin and Pepper Choplin in concert and dialogue, and a reproduction of the Carnegie Hall production by local choirs with Martin and Choplin. It’s a great opportunity for church musicians and worship leaders but will be an inspiration for anyone who participates! Go to http://divinity.campbell.edu/oasis.aspx.

Congratulations Class of 2013

We are proud of you and your service to the Lord.

Visiting the Holy Land

Visiting the Holy Land

Some 37 Campbell University Divinity School students, graduates and friends took a tour of Israel in May where they studied the Scriptures on site with Divinity School professors. They are shown here on the Mount of Beatitudes overlooking the Sea of Galilee where they gathered for a devotion. Next May, the Divinity School plans to host a study tour to Turkey and Greece. For more information, contact Irma Duke at duke@campbell.edu or 1-800-334-4111, ext. 1847. You will always read the Bible with better understanding after this pilgrimage.
