| About Dr. Roukema
Dr. Roukema is a native of New Jersey. She attended the University
of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and earned a BA in Middle Grades
Education with concentrations in Language Arts and Social Studies.
While at UNC, she was a member of the Marching Tar Heels and
lettered four years in Women’s Softball.
Dr. Roukema also earned her MA in Middle Grades Education from
UNC. She then began her teaching career at Pinehurst Middle School
in
Moore County, NC. While at Pinehurst, she taught different
combinations of 7th and 8th grade LA and SS. In 1991, she was named
Outstanding Young Educator of the Year by the NC Jaycees, and was
given the Governor's Award for Excellence in Teaching Social Studies
(an award granted to the outstanding Social Studies teacher, K-12,
in the State of North Carolina).
In 1994, Dr. Roukema earned her certification in Administration
and Supervision and moved into the role of Assistant Principal a few
years later. In 2001, she became a principal with the Moore County
School System. She earned her doctorate from Fayetteville State
University in 2002 and began her teaching career at Campbell in the
Fall of 2003 where she has been twice nominated for America’s Who’s
Who in Teaching and has won the Excellence in Teaching Award for
2006-2007.
Dr Roukema has published three articles; one can be accessed at

recent article, “The Advantages of Active Learning,” was published
in Today’s School in April of 2005. She has delivered
in-service workshops for administrators and/or teachers for Moore
County Schools, Harnett County Schools, Chatham County Schools, Lee
County Schools and Johnston County Schools.
