Literature Search Resources:

  • Free access e-journals
  • Campbell Library: electronic resources

A reasonably comprehensive list of electronic journals.  Most require a subscription.

  • Examples of online journals

The Biotech Journal An example of a journal only found online.  Some online-only journals have less information readily available concerning their peer review process, if they have one at all.  Some online journals have a well described thorough peer review process.  Peer review is a hallmark of a reputable primary source in the biological sciences .

PLoS Biology An example of a open-access online journal.  Open access indicates that it is available free of charge immediately when published.  This journal is published both online and in print.  Click on submissions, then guidelines to authors (note: you can view this even without registrations) to see information about their peer-review process

  • PubMed

From the National Library of Medicine: a great database for medical, cellular, molecular resources.  Also contains resources from fields one might not expect in a medically related database
