2014 YMCA College Day

Clarence E. Lightner Y Achievers College Day - July 17, 2014

Campbell RTP's very own Angie Smith and Sandy Gareton will be attending the YMCA College Day event this Thursday.

The YMCA of the Triangle created College Day in 2011 with only 25 students. In 2012 participation grew to 75 students. In 2013 they had over 400 students participate.  Even more are expected in 2014.

Students attending will participate in a simulated college admissions process along with informative workshops.   Each teen will meet with College Reps to determine if their current grades, references and interviewing skills are strong enough to have them admitted into that school and discuss how they can best prepare their road to college. College Day is special program they have created to help prepare students for higher education or the next level.

When: 10:00 am to 4:00 pm

Where: McKimmon Center at North Carolina State University

What: During College Day, teens will attend workshops on financial aid, college and life-readiness. High school teens will also take part in an admissions simulation project, where college representatives will determine if their current grades, references and interviewing skills are strong enough to have them admitted into the college of their choice.

Qualifications:

  • Must have attended university that he/she is representing.
  • Must maintain a positive, nurturing attitude during interview process.
