Dr. Eugene M. Sumner Biographical Sketch Dr. Sumner is an emeritus professor of social work at Meredith College where he was a faculty member from 1973-2003. During his academic career, Dr. Sumner has served as head of the Department of Sociology and Social Work and director of the social work program at Meredith. He has also served on various college committees and chaired the Committee on Graduate Studies for several years. Dr. Sumner has been active in community and professional organizations. He is a member of NASW and CSWE. He has been chosen as a Social Worker of the Year by NASW-NC and served one term each as treasurer and secretary. Dr. Sumner also currently serves as a trustee of Mount Olive College, his alma mater, and he currently serves as chair of the Committee on Academic Affairs and the Committee on Trustees. He also currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees. During his academic career, Dr. Sumner has taught in all areas of social work foundation curriculum with an emphasis on social policy and organizational and community theory. |
