Psi Chi

The National Honor Society in Psychology

In the Fall of 2004, the Psychology Department at Campbell University’s main campus* was granted a charter membership in Psi Chi, the national honor society in Psychology.  Psi Chi was founded in 1929 for the purpose of promoting excellence in scholarship and advancement the science of psychology.

Membership in Psi Chi is open to both undergraduates and graduate students who have declared a major or minor in Psychology or in a program related to Psychology; and who meet the academic standards listed below:

For more information about Psi Chi, please contact Dr. Trey Asbury (asbury@campbell.edu), the faculty advisor of Campbell University's chapter of Psi Chi; or visit the national organization's website (www.psichi.org).

*Note to Extended Campus Students:

The charter granted to Campbell University by the National Psi Chi organization applies only to the main campus location in Buies Creek.  In order to establish a chapter at extended campus locations such as Fort Bragg or Camp Lejeune,  the National organization requires that each campus have an established Psychology Club (8 member minimum) for a period no less than one year.  The frequent movement of students at extended campuses makes this requirement difficult to meet.

While local honor societies in psychology are being established at the extended campus locations, they will not be affiliated with the Psi Chi National charter.  Students registered at Ft.Bragg and Camp Lejeune meeting the same rigorous criteria for Psi Chi membership will be notified by mail about their eligibility for membership into these local honor societies prior to Fall I term each year.  All students inducted in the local honor society will be expected to engage in similar activities as those on the main campus (e.g., academic presentations, community service).
