The purpose of Campbell University's Family and Consumer Sciences
Department is to prepare students with the knowledge and practical
skills necessary to work to improve the lives of children and families
at the national, state, county, or local levels. Goals of the
program include:
- To instill among its students, Christian values and goals that
shall guide them as they face the challenges of their ever-changing
environment.
- To encourage students to develop skills and competencies in family
services, children's programs, life span development, foods and
nutrition, consumer management, and secondary education teaching
skills in family and consumer sciences education.
- To help students gain an understanding of the dynamics of families
and interpersonal relationships.
- To prepare students to work with various populations by
understanding the diversity of families.
- To provide students with knowledge in human development across the
life span, family relationships, parenting, and policies that affect
family life.
- To instill moral, ethical, and cultural sensitivity in students
that will serve them in their careers and in their personal lives.
- To prepare students to more effectively assume roles as family and
consumer sciences professionals, community members, marriage
partners, parents, teachers, and administrators.
- To provide students opportunities to develop leadership qualities.
- To prepare students for entry level employment in Family and
Consumer Sciences and its related areas.
