Master of Arts in Christian Education


The Master of Arts Degree in Christian Education (M.A.C.E.) requires 60 semester hours with a minimum of 30 of these hours being completed at Campbell.  This degree program can be completed in two years, enrolling in an average of 15 semester hours during each of four semesters.  Students may elect to earn the degree over a more extended period of time.  Normally, the degree should be completed within four years.  An overall grade point average of 2.0 is required for graduation.  Transfer students must have a 2.0 on all work completed and a 2.0 on all work done at Campbell. 

The Master of Arts in Christian Education degree focuses on church staff ministries and other ministries related to Christian education.  A core curriculum is designed to provide students with essential foundations for ministry.  Students then choose a minimum of 17 hours of vocational and elective studies according to calling and interest.  Please see Configurations for the M.A.C.E.—Concentrations.  Faculty advisers are available to counsel with students relative to curriculum selections.  Throughout the curriculum, students are led to develop their spiritual lives and to engage in theological reflection and dialogue. 

Students who decide to prepare for an academic career in college or university teaching in Christian education normally will change degree programs and earn the Master of Divinity.

Concentration and Elective Studies (Minimum of 17 hours)

A minimum of 17 hours in vocational electives must be included in the 60 hours required for the degree.  Due to the many combination positions in church ministry, students may need to include specialized study in a related discipline.  With approval, students may take up to 6 hours in graduate courses outside the Divinity School and apply them toward concentration requirements.
