When looking at Doug Powell’s résumé, one might wonder when he has time to sleep. He often asks himself the same thing. The Angier native recently returned to Harnett County to serve as an assistant professor of health professional studies and director of research for the College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences’ Doctor of Physical Therapy program at Campbell University.

A blank canvas may be daunting to some, but for Dr. Heidi Shearin developing a new program from the ground up is exciting.
Shearin was recently hired as the director of clinical education for Campbell University’s new doctor of physical therapy program which is projected to start in January, pending accreditation approval. She’s been working around the clock with the new program’s faculty and staff to meet accreditation deadlines, and help create a curriculum, develop courses and establish relationships with health care facilities.

Fifty students from 27 different colleges and 13 states across the country are spending the week at Campbell University in pursuit of improving their college applications for graduate and doctorate health programs.
The annual Healthcare Professionals Readiness & Enrichment Program (PREP), hosted by the College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences and School of Osteopathic Medicine, teaches participants about resume writing, interviewing, time management, test taking and professional development skills.
Campbell’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program approved to continue accreditation process

Campbell University’s new Doctor of Physical Therapy Program received approval this week from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to continue the national accreditation process.
“This is exciting news,” said Dr. Greg Dedrick, director of Campbell’s physical therapy program. “Approval from the SACSCOC is a necessary step to submit our application for candidacy to the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE).”
