PA Program hosts second annual health fair at Buies Creek Elementary School

To promote healthy living in the community, students and faculty from Campbell University’s PA Program recently held a health fair for the fourth and fifth grade classes at Buies Creek Elementary School teaching them about physical activity, healthy eating, and how to live a healthy lifestyle.
"Last year’s inaugural PA class of 2013 started the now annual event in an attempt to get involved in the local community. As the second PA class at Campbell, we felt that it was important to continue this initiative in hopes of improving the health status of our community,” said Rahul Desai, first-year PA student who was the lead organizer for the event.
Campbell partners with health center to receive grant to help diabetes patients

The Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust of Winston-Salem, N.C., has awarded a $399,000 grant for Campbell University to partner with First Choice Community Health Centers (FCCHC) for a collaborative project that will implement a diabetes navigator service program to high-risk patients with Type 2 diabetes.
Public Health, PA host free dental and medical clinic for Harnett County children

Nearly 100 underserved children from Harnett County received free dental and medical care on Saturday, Feb. 2, at a clinic organized by Campbell University’s Public Health and Physician Assistant programs.
The one-day event set up twelve dental chairs in the Harnett County Commons Area in Lillington, N.C., providing free exams, cleanings, sealants, and fluoride treatments for children who do not have dental insurance or receive Medicaid funding.
Physician Assistant Program supports local Make-A-Wish charity

Campbell University’s Physician Assistant Program presented a $5,000 check to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Eastern North Carolina today to help grant wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.
“As future PAs, many of us will treat children with life-threatening illnesses similar to those that are granted wishes,” said Kaitlyn Schmid, a first-year PA student at Campbell University. “And though we will work specifically on the medical end, we all know the significance of ‘play’ in their overall well-being and care.”
Fuquay-Varina pharmacist receives distinguished award from Campbell University

Curtis Holleman, owner of Elliotts Pharmacy in Fuquay-Varina, N.C., received the 2012 M. Keith Fearing, Jr., Community Pharmacy Practice Award from Campbell University on April 5.
“I feel fortunate, although surprised to receive this award,” said Holleman. "I have a real respect for the list of past recipients; it is quite an honor to be placed in the same family.”
