Academic Experience

Dr. Sawyer served as clinical adjunct faculty in the Physical Therapy Program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 1995 to 1997. He was an advisory board member for the Physical Therapist Assistant Program at Guilford Technical Community College as well as a faculty member in 1997-‘98. He has been associated as a clinical instructor for multiple physical therapy programs since 1995 in a variety of settings including Acute Care, Inpatient Rehabilitation, Outpatient Orthopedics, Hospital Based as well as Independent Outpatient Clinics. He has provided multiple guest lectures in physical therapy and physical therapist assistant programs on clinical reasoning, transitioning from student to clinician and on electromyography procedures provided by physical therapists. Areas of teaching expertise include hospital based practice, professional interactions, clinical reasoning and electrophysiology.

  • H-Reflex activity before and after spinal manipulation
  • Clinical access to electroneuromyography services in rural health settings
