Dr. Stagner’s research interests include the physical and chemical characterization of drugs and excipients, use of design of experiments to optimize formulation composition and performance, and use process analytical technologies and statistics to understand and optimize manufacturing processes. Physical characterization employs differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric calorimetry, hot stage microscopy, powder x-ray diffractometry, solubility and particle size analysis. Chemical characterization includes Fourier transform infrared specstroscopy and analytical separation methods to establish degradation rates and heats of reaction to predict chemical stability.
