Dr. Diliberto’s research interests examine the pathophysiology of the amyloid precursor protein and of its processing to the b-peptide and other amyloidogenic products leading to their deposition to form senile plaques. He focuses his research on the development of therapeutic agents for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease and related neurodegenerative disorders through inhibition of the synthesis, processing, deposition, and/or toxicity of the aberrant protein product(s). His past research also focused on the synthesis and degradation of neurotransmitters and other aspects of neurotransmission as well as the modification of these processes by drugs using multidisciplinary techniques.
