I serve as the academic advisor for all dual PharmD/MSCR students. My role is to assist, advise and guide students throughout their academic career; as well as help them plan for their post-graduate future. This dual degree is an academic path which will set students apart from their peers and make them more marketable for post-graduate training and career opportunities. A Master’s in Clinical Research will augment the PharmD in many ways. The education and skills students will gain from our program include literature evaluation, research question development, study design, data management, statistical analysis and interpretation, and presentation of research.
Pharmacy and healthcare is a rapidly changing environment. There is no longer the pharmacy shortage there once was, and the job market is becoming highly competitive. There is a need for the field of pharmacy to evolve. Clinical research provides an array of job opportunities beyond the traditional clinical pharmacist role including study coordinators, investigators, investigational drug pharmacists, drug safety specialists, and medical science liaisons just to name a few.
As a graduate of the dual PharmD/MSCR program myself, it is very near and dear to my heart. My career path would not have been possible without the dual PharmD/MSCR.
