Admission Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in the U.S.
  • Recommended overall GPA > 3.2
  • Recommended prerequisites GPA > 3.0
  • Recommended GRE >1100 (>300 revised format) within 5 years of application. View details below regarding the revised GRE test.
    • Verbal > 500 (>150 revised GRE)
    • Quantitative > 600 (>150 revised GRE)
    • Analytical > 4.0
  • Required 1,000 hours (equal to six months of full-time work) of direct hands-on patient care experience. This experience must be completed no later than Dec. 31 of the year prior to matriculation. Hours obtained during the educational training will not count toward the required 1,000 hours.
  • Three letters of recommendation-preference is given to applicants with two out of three letters from physicians, PAs or clinical supervisors, and others familiar with your clinical experience. Personal recommendations are discouraged.
  • Completion of all prerequisite work (see list below).

Admission Process

Campbell PA program applicants must use the Central Application Service for Physician Assistants (CASPA) online at www.caspaonline.org. Official GRE scores (code 0406), three letters of recommendation, a personal statement, health care experience hours and official transcripts must be submitted to CASPA.

A supplemental application must also be submitted with a $50 application fee to the College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences’ (CPHS) Admission Office. A passport size personal photograph must be included.

The application deadline is Jan. 15 with priority given to candidates who complete their application by Nov 1. The PA Program admits students on a rolling basis so applicants are encouraged to apply early. The earlier an applicant applies, the better the chances are for acceptance. 

Once a complete application is submitted it will be reviewed by the Admissions Committee. Qualified candidates will be invited to campus for an interview. Interviews are conducted on a rolling basis. If you receive an interview, you can expect a response within four weeks of the interview date.

A background check and substance abuse screening test are required for students who are accepted into the program.

Prerequisites

  • Bachelor’s degree completed by the end of the spring semester prior to matriculation.
  • All prerequisites must be completed no later than Dec. 31 of the year prior to matriculation
  • All pre-professional academic work must be done at a regionally accredited college or university in the United States.
  • There is no advanced standing.
  • The Program does not accept transfer credit from other Physician Assistant programs. 
  • All grades “C” or better
  • No time limit on completed courses
  • Courses:
    • One semester of General Biology
    • Two semesters of Human Anatomy and Physiology with labs (this may be taken as two combined A & P courses with lab, or one Anatomy course with lab and one Physiology Course)
    • One semester of Microbiology with lab
    • One semester of General Chemistry with lab
    • One semester of Organic Chemistry or Biochemistry
    • One semester of Statistics or Biostatistics
    • One semester of Psychology
    • One semester of Genetics is recommended
    • Please note that all prerequisite courses that require a lab must be completed in person. Online labs will not be accepted.

International Applicants

International applicants who have completed a bachelor’s degree and all prerequisite courses at a regionally accredited institution in the United States are eligible to apply to the program. International applicants may be asked to submit Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores directly to admissions office if English is a second language.

Revised version of the GRE effective Aug. 1, 2011
