Online Learning

Benefits for online learning in the MSCR program

Flexibility in location: There is no need to travel to attend classes.  This can save both time and money for busy students.

Flexibility in time: Although classes are run on a weekly format, the work can be done at the student’s convenience throughout the week.  Due dates are given early in the class so that the student can budget time to complete the assignments. Scheduling events and study times can be much easier with online classes.

Work/family life balance: Attending school online can give working adults or parents the benefit of remaining employed (full or part-time) and allow for more time with their families.

Diversity: Students can interact with other students in many different areas of the state, country or even the world.  This will allow for diversity among culture, viewpoints and experiences, thus enabling  students to learn from each other in a collaborative and interactive environment.

Technology:  Students will become proficient in the use of many different technology tools throughout the program.  This skill will enhance students’ marketability in the workplace as well as in future careers.

Collaboration:  Taking online classes in a virtual environment allows for collaboration among peers.  Group assignments, projects and synchronous class times give students the opportunity to voice their experiences and opinions as well as to learn from the wealth of experiences from their peers.  Interaction and teamwork is vital in the workplace, thus enhancing their skills for future employment.

Self-Discipline: Due to the nature of the online environment, students must have self-discipline in completing assignments and meeting deadlines.  This type of discipline enhances one’s reliability and independence, thus showcasing his or her dedication to the faculty as well as to future or current employers.

Real life application:  Attending a virtual professional program allows for real life experiences and potential workplace scenarios to be incorporated into the classroom. Students can incorporate their experiences into their assignments and discussions, thus adding value to what they are learning, in addition to increasing diversity among their peers.
