Widow's Walk

Precariously

                   the widows walk

          the gabled roofs

                                    of separateness;

               to search

                              an empty span

                                     of sea.

Descending with the dark

                    into the strange houses

                             loneliness builds,

                  with rooms of rain

                    and doors

                            that pain leaves open

                                     to the wind.
