Health Insurance

Campbell University offers one plan from Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC) for health insurance coverage. This plan is Blue Options (PPO). Each eligible permanent full-time employee pays the monthly premiums for health care coverage, ($20.00 month). Campbell University cannot guarantee that employees will be eligible to participate in the University's medical insurance plan. If BCBSNC refuses coverage to the employee for any reason, Campbell University is under no obligation to locate, or pay for, substitute coverage. Dependent or family coverage may be obtained with premiums paid by pre-tax payroll deductions.

Dental Insurance

Dental Insurance Campbell University offers a choice of two (2) voluntary dental insurance plans from Sun Life to all eligible, permanent, full-time employees. Both plans offer the freedom to choose any dentist or dental specialist in the United States. No referrals are required under either plan. Employee only, employee/spouse, employee/child(ren), or employee/family coverage may be obtained with premiums paid by pre-tax payroll deductions. Disability Insurance

Long-Term Disability Insurance: Campbell University offers long-term disability insurance free of charge to all full-time, eligible employees who have been employed for more than one (1) year. This policy is issued by The Standard Insurance Company. For more information on this benefit, please contact the Human Resources Department.

Flexible Spending Account

Flexible Spending Accounts are a provision of the Section 125 tax law that allows you to deposit a tax-free portion of your gross income into a savings-like account which is then used to pay you for unreimbursed medical as well as certain dependent care expenses. There are two (2) types of accounts available: Medical Spending Accounts and Dependent Care Spending Accounts. For 2009, Campbell University has set the annual limit for employee pre-tax payroll deductions into Flex accounts as follows: $3,500 for Medical and $5,000 for Dependent. All full-time employees who have completed their 60 day probationary period are eligible to enroll in this program. Cancer Indemnity Insurance

Campbell University offers a voluntary Personal Cancer Indemnity Plan from AFLAC to all eligible, permanent, full-time employees. This plan is designed to help provide an important safety net in fighting the financial consequences of cancer that result beyond traditional health insurance. Retirement Programs

Campbell University provides an optional retirement program with flexibility to select from two (2) investment vehicles. Full-time, eligible employees may choose to participate in either the Teachers Insurance Annuity Association-College Retirement Equities Fund (TIAA/CREF) Retirement Plan or the Southern Baptist Convention Annuity Plan, now known as Guidestone Financial (GF). Employees may contribute a minimum of 5% (General Limit for 2009: up to a maximum of $16,500 per year for employees under 50 years of age; up to a maximum of $20,500 per year for employees 50 years of age and over) of their gross pay and, after meeting eligibility requirements (unless otherwise stated, a probational period of 2 months or 60 days), the University will contribute an 8% match. Tuition Assistance Program

After successful completion of the probationary employment period, full-time employees, a dependent child (a child is determined to be a dependent if the child is claimed as a dependent on the parent’s federal income tax return for the intended year of enrollment) or spouse of an eligible employee are eligible to receive tuition and matriculation fees as set forth herein. Other special fees are not included. The tuition benefit applies to undergraduate studies subject to the following conditions:

1. The tuition assistance is available to full-time employees for up to two classes per semester taken outside the work hours. Dependents and spouses must be enrolled for twelve or more semester hours each term to be eligible for tuitionassistance.

2. Eligible employees may take a course during their lunch hour upon approval buy their supervisor. Otherwise, eligible employees may not attend class during the normal workday of the University

3. Anyone eligible for tuition assistance must apply for all available financial aid, not including loans, which will be applied to the cost of the tuition and matriculation fees before University benefits apply;

4. One-half tuition rate is available for eligible part-time undergraduate students;

5. One-half tuition rate is available for summer school for eligible undergraduate students;

6. These benefits do not apply to the School of Law and the School of Pharmacy.

The tuition benefit applies to graduate studies on any campus where programs are offered subject to the following conditions:

1. One-half tuition rate is available for eligible part-time graduate students;

2. One-half tuition rate is available for summer school for eligible graduate students;

3. One-half tuition rate is available for eligible MBA and MTWM students in any session;

4. One-half tuition rate is available for eligible MED and MA students in any session;

5. One-half tuition rate is available for eligible MDIV and MA students in any session;

6. These benefits do not apply to the School of Law and the School

of Pharmacy.

NOTE: The University may offer to pay employee tuition for outside courses of study as a fringe benefit to it its employees. The regulations promulgated pursuant to the Fair Labor Standards Act governing time spent by employees in lectures, meetings, and training programs state that attendance at such events need not be counted as working time if four criteria are met:

1. Attendance is outside the employee’s regular working hours;

2. Attendance is voluntary;

3. The course, lecture, or meeting is not directly related to the employee’s job; and

4. The employee does not perform any productive work during such attendance.

Holidays

Campbell University recognizes the following holidays as paid holidays for employees:

Memorial Day
Independence Day
Labor Day
Thanksgiving 2 days
Christmas 3 days

Hourly employees are paid at regular time if the employee works a full shift the day before and the day immediately following the holiday or if the holiday falls within a vacation or sick period. Any employee on unpaid leave will not get holiday leave pay. All full-time employees, including employees still on probation and temporary, full-time employees, are eligible to receive holiday pay if they meet the above requirements. Specific dates for holidays are published at the beginning of each academic year.

Extended campuses will observe the federal holiday schedule specified by their respective host installation as paid holidays.

Vacation

During the full-time employee's first calendar year of employment with Campbell University, paid vacation is earned at a rate of 6.67 hours per month of service after the employee has completed the sixty (60) day probationary period. NO paid vacation time may be taken during the employee's introductory period. All full-time employees (working a minimum of 32 hours per week) with 10 years, but less than 15 years of service will earn vacation at a rate of one (1) day per month. Employees with 15 or more years of service will receive vacation at the rate of 1.25 days per month.

One week of each employee's earned vacation must be taken at one time. The supervisor must approve all vacations. Employees may accumulate up to five (5) days of vacation. Each December 31, all accumulated vacation over five (5) days will be lost.

Employees who terminate with proper notice (as defined in the Employee Personnel Manual), will be paid for any vacation earned but not taken.

If a holiday observed by the University falls within an employee's vacation period, the holiday will not be counted as vacation time.

Vacation may be taken in no less than one-half day increments.

Sick and Bereavement Leave

It is the policy of Campbell University to provide permanent, full-time, non-faculty employees with protection against loss of earnings due to illness by providing a reasonable amount of sick leave.

Sick leave is earned at a rate of one (1) day per month beginning with the first full month of active employment following the completion of the employee's introductory period. Each employee may accumulate up to a maximum of 120 days of paid sick leave that can be used at any time during the employee's continued employment with the University.

Sick leave may be used to cover absences for actual periods of illness or a genuine medical emergency in the immediate family.

Reasonable sick leave may be taken in the event of the death of the following relatives: spouse, children, parents, brother or sister, grandparents, mother-in-law or father-in-law, brother-in-law or sister-in-law.

Upon separation of employment for any reason, all unused sick leave is forfeited.

Employee Discounts

ID cards are available to all full-time University employees. In addition to identification purposes, these cards enable the employees to borrow books from the library and to use the University pool (with paid membership). ID cards also entitle the employees to free or reduced admission to sporting events, lectures, and other entertainment events, as well as a 10% discount at the Bookstore (on most items).

In addition, employees may use their ID cards to deposit money in a declining balance (pre-pay) account that may be used at all four (4) dining establishments on campus.

Reduced meal rates are offered to employees who use the declining balance method at Marshbanks and Shouse Dining Halls (reduced rates not valid at the Oasis Grill or Deli).

To establish a declining balance account, please see one of the cashiers at the Business Office.
